Transfer window roundup: A new look AS Monaco

Nearly 133 million euros of purchases, more than 106 million in sales: AS Monaco was one of the busiest bees in the 2019 summer transfer window. With 11 players recruited, the equivalent of a first team, the club has displayed its European ambitions. Now all eyes are on what will happen on the field!

A dreamy attacking front

The transfer window meant saying farewell to Radamel Falcao who, with his 95 goals in 171 games, will have made history for the club. And welcome to the new offensive clique that should wreak havoc. Wissam Ben Yedder (40 million euros), Gelson Martins (30 million), Henry Onyekuri (13.50 million euros), with mentions of course to Islam Slimani (loan) and Jean-Kévin Augustin (paid loan): the boys up front are looking like a dream team.

A reinforced midfield

The middle third was clearly ASM’s weak link at the beginning of the season. With Jemerson repositioned in the center and the inexperience of his accompanying youth players, Oleg Petrov had to act. And now, Tiémoué Bakayoko (loan) and Adrien Silva (loan) signed in the final days of the transfer window. With Fabregas and Golovin, this quartet has what it takes to hold the ball and threaten opponents at will.

A defense under construction

Promises and progress: that’s the state of the Monegasque defense to date. The late arrivals of Guillermo Maripan (18 million) and Arthur Zagré (10 million) are positive points. And the transfer of Ruben Aguilar (8 million) is very good news. But Leonardo Jardim has his work cut out for him before finding the right formula that will make the team airtight.

A top-notch goalkeeper

Finally, the arrival of Benjamin Lecomte (13.50 million) is excellent news for the Principality’s club. With the French international goalkeeper, the club has found a quality successor to Danijel Subasic.

With such a successful Mercato, the club is now armed to regain their place near the top of Ligue 1!
