Initiating youngsters to the oval ball and allowing the established U12s to compete sportingly in the prestigious Louis II Stadium: these are the two objectives of the Devote Saint Rugby tournament organized by the Monegasque Federation of Rugby, with the support of the Princess Charlene Foundation of Monaco. This year marks the 9th edition, which will take place on May 11th, and promises to build on the longstanding tradition.<\/p>\n
In addition to the 17 team tournament (see the list of participants below), two events will mark the day. First of all, the “Sainte Devote Challenge” – which bears the name of the Patron Saint of the Principality and Corsica – will be played between Lucciana and Monaco. At 3:30 pm, it will be time for “Tots Rugby”, an introduction to the oval ball aimed at children from 3 to 5 years old.<\/p>\n
As for the main tournament, the organizers have made a strong push this year, bringing in teams from four new nations: the United Arab Emirates, Andorra, Spain and, the United States. Each country will field a team of girls and boys.<\/p>\n
The names of the 17 teams: Abu Dhabi (EFR), South Africa (LIV), Andorra (Federation), England (London), Dubai (APRSA), Spain (Barcelona), USA (USA West Rugby), France ( Lucciana, Montpellier, Provence and Toulon), Georgia (Tbilisi), Mauritius (Mauritian Federation Selection), Italy (Imperia), Monaco, Switzerland (Vaud Association), Russia (Kaliningrad).<\/p>\n
