This year\u2019s International Women\u2019s Day in Monaco is built around the theme of professional equality between men and women. And yet, much work remains to be done in changing people&#8217;s mindset.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">2018 marked a turning point in the story of women\u2019s rights in Monaco. On 30th November, the Monegasque government created <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/2018\/11\/monaco-comite-pour-droits-des-femmes\/\">the Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Women\u2019s Rights<\/a> (Comit\u00e9 Droits des Femmes) with hopes to improve all aspects of women&#8217;s lives in the Principality. The Committee\u2019s mission is to coordinate, implement and evaluate national policies to promote gender equality, while combatting gender-based violence and discrimination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_23086\" style=\"width: 910px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23086\" class=\"wp-image-23086 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Comite-pour-la-protection-des-droits-des-femmes-international-womens-day-2020.jpg\" alt=\"Comite-pour-la-protection-des-droits-des-femmes international womens day 2020\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Comite-pour-la-protection-des-droits-des-femmes-international-womens-day-2020.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Comite-pour-la-protection-des-droits-des-femmes-international-womens-day-2020-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Comite-pour-la-protection-des-droits-des-femmes-international-womens-day-2020-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Comite-pour-la-protection-des-droits-des-femmes-international-womens-day-2020-219x146.jpg 219w, https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Comite-pour-la-protection-des-droits-des-femmes-international-womens-day-2020-50x33.jpg 50w, https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Comite-pour-la-protection-des-droits-des-femmes-international-womens-day-2020-113x75.jpg 113w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-23086\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Prince&#8217;s Government \/ gouv.mc<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">C\u00e9line Cottalorda, Chief Officer for Women\u2019s Rights, reflected on the accomplishments made by the committee in a statement to <\/span><a class=\"_e75a791d-denali-editor-page-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/lagazettedemonaco.com\/en\/egalite-femmes-hommes-a-monaco-une-campagne-photographique-et-un-bilan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">La Gazette de Monaco<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWe have created a website dedicated to women\u2019s rights, published in mid-January the first study with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imsee.mc\/\">IMSEE<\/a> on violence against women in Monaco, implemented a vast plan aiming to improve aid offered to female victims of violence, and carried out campaigns to raise awareness of equality and violence during the International Days of March 8th and November 25th.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The situation in numbers<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In the\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"_e75a791d-denali-editor-page-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imsee.mc\/Publications\/Violences-faites-aux-femmes-a-Monaco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">2019 IMSEE study<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, figures were collected from four separate Monegasque institutions to represent the current situation surrounding gender-based violence. Photo credit SheCanHeCan via Twitter.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Throughout the year, 113 women were admitted to the Hospital Centre having suffered from violent acts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Just 33 cases were registered with the police, whereas some 42 women sought help at <\/span><a class=\"_e75a791d-denali-editor-page-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.avip-monaco.org\/fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">AVIP<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Four convictions were given out and a further 33 cases were opened. Only 15 cases went to trial or other form of legal proceeding.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The government&#8217;s transparency with such figures was an achievement for the Committee, but C\u00e9line Cottalorda asserts that their work is far from over. \u201cMy goal is to go beyond what exists and to integrate all the committee members into the discussions. I am very satisfied with their state of mind and their mobilisation.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">2019, year of progress<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In March, after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2019\/03\/1st-meeting-of-the-committee-for-the-promotion-and-protection-of-womens-rights\/\">first official meeting<\/a> of the Committee, several campaigns were launched. The legal review began to start removing all obsolete provisions from the Monaco legislation. Maternity leave was extended to allow women to maintain balance between their professional and private lives.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Perhaps most significant, the Charter for Equality between Women and Men at Work was signed by representatives of seven labour-based industries and organisations within Monaco in November. Linked to their work in the signing of the Charter four months ago, they have commemorated International Women&#8217;s Day 2020 with pictures of Monegasques of all professions, standing side by side in a show of parity between the two workers. By the end of the year, they hope that fathers can properly invest their time into raising their children. In addition, he questioned why so few women today are in management positions, going as far to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/stephanevaleri\/status\/1235871238834155520?s=20\">say<\/a> that &#8220;it is not normal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>International Women&#8217;s Day takes place every year on 8th March.
