Inaugurated in 1910, the 6,000 m\u00b2 monument, built at the behest of Prince Albert I, really stands out on the Rock. It is built into   the side of an 85 metre-high cliff and contains around a hundred tanks that house a major collection of 350 species of fish, with over 6,000 specimens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-aquariums\">The aquariums<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Popular with visitors, the aquariums allow them to dive:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>in the tropics: the tropical area reveals the hectic life of the coral reef and its inhabitants with their hypnotic shapes and colours. Visitors of all ages come face to face with sharks and piranhas, and can watch the clownfish, the fearsome stonefish with its deadly stinging spines, the endearing boxfish or the dancing seahorses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in the Mediterranean Sea: more than 200 varieties of invertebrates are to be discovered in the Mediterranean tanks, a sea with unsuspected treasures. You will meet the intelligent octopus, shudder at the disturbing moray eels and admire the soothing ballet of the jellyfish.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"693\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/musee-oceanographique-monaco-aquarium-1024x693.jpg\" alt=\"musee-oceanographique-monaco-aquarium\" class=\"wp-image-234325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/musee-oceanographique-monaco-aquarium-1024x693.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/musee-oceanographique-monaco-aquarium-443x300.jpg 443w, https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/musee-oceanographique-monaco-aquarium.jpg 1300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>\u00a9 Mus\u00e9e oc\u00e9anographique \/ Facebook<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The aquariums play an important <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2020\/09\/mediterranean-heroes-olivier-brunel-the-sea-life-guardian\/\">conservation role for threatened species<\/a>, including coral farms, and reproduction of clownfish, seahorses, cuttlefish, or the cardinal fish from the Banggai islands, which is endangered through over-fishing\u2026 The museum therefore contributes to the protection and sustainable management of natural environments and species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-museum-area\">The museum area<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>But make no mistake, this Temple of the Sea, is not only an &#8220;aquarium&#8221; as some visitors think before they come, but a museum exhibiting a valuable collection of historical, artistic and crafts objects to do with the sea. Visitors of all ages are welcomed to an immersive experience across four major thematic spaces, encouraging reflection on the solutions needed to preserve this unique natural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>> The museum has also undergone a modernization with three new additions, inaugurated by Prince Albert II: a new conference hall equipped with a state-of-the-art immersive audiovisual system, the \u201cJean Jaubert\u201d tank, and a commemorative plaque honoring the Oceanographic Institute\u2019s loyal patrons and partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&gt; With family or friends, you can make a day of it thanks to the <b>many activities<\/b> : the workshop where you&#8217;ll meet seaside animals,&nbsp; the escape game, and the virtual reality activity &#8220;immerSEAve&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>> The Oceano Club is now open for registrations for <strong>its discovery camp<\/strong> during the school holidays. Children aged 6 to 12 will enjoy a wide range of games and activities centered on the oceans and the animals that inhabit them. Two themes will shape the two weeks of the February holidays: <em>Mediterranean Expedition<\/em> and <em>At the Heart of Coral Reefs.<\/em> The fee is \u20ac450 per child for five days, including lunch and afternoon snack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"related\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2024\/03\/record-donation-by-association-des-amis-du-musee-oceanographique-de-monaco\/\">Record donation by Association des Amis du Mus\u00e9e Oc\u00e9anographique de Monaco<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Practical details:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Allow at least two hours for the Museum visit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open from 10 am to 6 pm from October to March, it stays open until 7 pm in September, April, May and June. Over the summer period, the museum opens at 9.30 am and closes at 8 pm.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prices: \u20ac22,50 for adults and \u20ac14 for children and students. Admission is \u20ac11 for visitors with reduced mobility. Under 4s go free. There are combined tickets with the Prince\u2019s car collection or the Prince\u2019s Palace. These cost \u20ac28 for adults and \u20ac16.50 for children.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is a restaurant on the rooftop terrace, with a breathtaking view.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Museum is easy to find, and is just above the Chemin des P\u00eacheurs car park. If you come by train, just take bus line 1 or 2 from the station exit in Sainte-D\u00e9vote.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information: <a
