It&#8217;s official"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In a recent Radio Monaco podcast, Gennaro Iorio, head cellar man at the <em>H\u00f4tel de Paris Monte-Carlo<\/em> tells the story of the wine called <em>Nectar de Monaco<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are no vineyards in Monaco, and yet, in 2013, a unique cuv\u00e9e called <em>Nectar de Monaco<\/em> was produced..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The history of this natural sweet wine dates back to the 150th anniversary of the <em>Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Bains de Mer,<\/em> when it organised an event entitled &#8216;150 years, 150 wines, 150 days&#8217;. To mark the occasion, 150 bottles of <em>Nectar de Monaco<\/em> were made, and are now scattered around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"related wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2024\/01\/where-to-find-monacos-best-wine-cellars\/\">Where to find Monaco&#8217;s best wine cellars?<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Giulia Testaverde of Radio Monaco spoke to Gennaro Iorio, head cellarman at the <em>H\u00f4tel de Paris Monte-Carlo<\/em>, who harvested the 230 kilos of grapes that went into making <em>Nectar de Monaco<\/em> in 2013. He explains how the prestigious vintage was created, and where at least one of the remaining bottles can be found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A \u2018pop-up vineyard\u2019 as it might be called today was created on the Place du Casino by landscape architect Jean Mus.&nbsp;300 vine plants were replanted in the former \u2018camembert\u2019, in containers.&nbsp;There were 4 grape varieties&nbsp;: Cardinal, Black Muscat, Muscat of Alexandria and Chasselas. People were a little surprised to see the <em>Place du Casino<\/em> turned into a vineyard, especially when the grapes started to appear!\u201d said Iorio.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The vines were tended by the agronomist from the <em>Ch\u00e2teau Cr\u00e9mat<\/em> in Nice, who\u00a0kept a close eye on the \u2018vineyard\u2019 until the grape harvest kicked off on 10 September 2013, right in the centre of Monaco!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">250 kilos of grapes were picked and taken to <em>Ch\u00e2teau de Cr\u00e9mat<\/em>. The result was a natural sweet wine. \u201cWe managed to produce 150 half-bottles, individually numbered and mostly given out to the Princely Family and a number of VIP hotel guests,\u201d Iorio recalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the story doesn\u2019t end there. One day, a customer at the H\u00f4tel Hermitage asked for a bottle. He was none other than the Director of the <em>Cit\u00e9 Mondial du Vin <\/em>(CMV) ,which had just opened in Bordeaux, and he wanted a bottle to display at the <em>Cit\u00e9<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/radio-monaco.com\/le-nectar-de-monaco-un-vin-doux-naturel-made-in-monaco\/\">Listen to the podcast (French language)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later, when the Sovereign visited the CMV, the mayor was able to show the Prince that Monaco was officially mentioned in the Cit\u00e9 Mondiale du Vin as a wine producer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asked if it there might be another <em>Nectar de Monaco<\/em> in a few years&nbsp;, Iorio answered \u201cWell I like to hope so.
