{"id":28951,"date":"2020-06-05T17:39:47","date_gmt":"2020-06-05T15:39:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/?p=28951"},"modified":"2022-11-28T22:13:28","modified_gmt":"2022-11-28T21:13:28","slug":"cannes-festival-reveals-official-selection-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2020\/06\/cannes-festival-reveals-official-selection-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Cannes Festival reveals Official Selection 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The selection committee of the Cannes Film Festival yesterday revealed their Official Selection for this years\u2019 festival, which was cancelled early in April this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the 2,067 feature films sent in, the Official Selection comprises of 56 chosen works to be accompanied by the Festival for their release in cinemas. The list included directors old and new, from across each continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cCinema is more alive than ever\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As there is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2020\/03\/iconic-palais-des-festivals-in-cannes-provides-shelter-to-homeless\/\">no traditional programming<\/a> of the festival, the committee decided to release the films in one single list, rather than the usual categories: Competition, Un Certain regard, Out of competition, Midnight Screenings, and Special Screenings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEven though movie theatres have been shut for three months &#8211; for the first time since the invention of film screening by the Lumi\u00e8re Brothers on December 28, 1895 &#8211; this Selection reflects that cinema is more alive than ever,\u201d read a press release from the Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis selection was built with the prospect of seeing the Cannes Film Festival assume more than ever its primary mission: to promote films, artists and professionals by showing their work, to be the bridge between the screen and the public.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The films chosen reflected the organisers\u2019 commitment \u201cCollectif 50\/50\u201d, in providing statistical information on the presence of female directors in its entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cannes 2020 Official
