As lockdown has slowly come to an end across the world, there has been an increase in speeding and fatal accidents. Jean Todt, President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General for Road Safety, spoke on this subject on June 5th on Monaco Info.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf governments decided to make road safety a priority, I can assure you that there would be a considerable reduction in the number of victims on the world’s roads,\u201d Jean Todt assured in an interview with Monaco Info on June 5th. According to the delegate, 1.4 million people die on the roads around the world every year. “This is a pandemic. Every day, 3,800 people die on the world’s roads,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Princely family\u2019s commitment to road safety<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To enact meaningful change, the FIA relies on global road safety campaigns, in efforts to change the mentality and awareness. Campaigns involving several of Monaco\u2019s personalities such as H.S.H. Princess Charlene and Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc. In May 2019, they both lent their voices and faces to the #3500Lives campaign, which raises awareness about traffic accidents involving pedestrians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Princess Charlene is also a member of the High Level Panel for Road Safety, an advisory group dedicated to road safety. She is not the only member of the Princely Family to be committed to this cause. In 2019, Camille Gottlieb, daughter of Princess St\u00e9phanie, created her association dedicated to the fight against drink driving<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
