From now until 7 September, visitors to the Quai Antoine I exhibition hall can go on a six-part artistic journey that explores the climate emergency and protection of the oceans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Tuesday 8 July, Prince Albert II also discovered the themed visit (with sections entitled L&#8217;Horizon, La Faune et la Flore (flora and fauna), Habiter le rivage (living on the shoreline), Prendre la mer (going out to sea), La mer en danger (sea under threat), Avant le d\u00e9luge (before the deluge). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-monaco-tribune wp-block-embed-monaco-tribune\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"cRWTK4CbIG\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2025\/06\/this-treasure-is-in-peril-prince-albert-ii-warns-as-unoc3-gets-under-way\/\">\u00ab\u00a0This treasure is in peril\u00a0\u00bb: Prince Albert II warns as UNOC3 gets under way<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;\u00ab\u00a0This treasure is in peril\u00a0\u00bb: Prince Albert II warns as UNOC3 gets under way&#8221; &#8212; Monaco Tribune\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2025\/06\/this-treasure-is-in-peril-prince-albert-ii-warns-as-unoc3-gets-under-way\/embed\/#?secret=RSAE7muMpd#?secret=cRWTK4CbIG\" data-secret=\"cRWTK4CbIG\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: black;\">The project is part of &#8220;La Mer en Commun &#8211; Ann\u00e9e de la Mer&#8221; (Our shared seas &#8211; year of the sea), an initiative of the French Ministry of Ecological Transition, as well as the Blue Economy and Finance Forum and the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2025\/06\/this-treasure-is-in-peril-prince-albert-ii-warns-as-unoc3-gets-under-way\/\"><span style=\"color: blue; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;\">(UNOC 3)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: black;\">, &nbsp;held in Monaco and Nice in June 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;Clearly, the sea is a grey area, a &#8216;terra incognita&#8217;, as far as mankind is concerned,&#8221;<\/em> writes exhibition curator \u00c9lodie Antoine in the preface to the exhibition catalogue. She also quotes a favourite historian of hers, Jules Michelet, who features throughout the exhibition through several other quotes.&nbsp;<em>&#8220;There are different ways of approaching the works. That&#8217;s not its goal. Its purpose lies elsewhere, on the fringes, where something can still be done as an individual and citizen,&#8221;<\/em>&nbsp;writes \u00c9lodie Antoine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The Monaco Tribune editorial team was particularly struck by five works:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-seascape-by-jean-christophe-norman-2024\">1. <em>Seascape <\/em>by Jean-Christophe Norman (2024)<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/img_1045-grande-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-303966\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/img_1045-grande-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/img_1045-grande-400x300.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/img_1045-grande.jpeg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 Benjamin Godart &#8211; Monaco Tribune<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Using bits of newspaper picked up on his travels, Jean-Christophe Norman has painted the nuances of the horizon in the style of British landscape painter Constable, using oil and encaustic wax. Some of the printed characters are still visible where the sky meets the sea. For this installation, the arrangement of the small canvases is always left up to those who install the exhibition. <em>\u201cIt is a living piece. Renowned for her bathers, Farah Atassi created this painting especially for the occasion. Here the figure is serene, eyes closed despite the mess on the ground around them. Through the striped swimming costume, the posture, the bright colours, the drawn lines, the subject echoes Picasso&#8217;s 1928 Bathers series in Dinard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-the-crossing-by-bao-vuong-2023\">3. <em>The Crossing<\/em> by Bao Vuong (2023)<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/img_1051-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-303962\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/img_1051-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/img_1051-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u00a9 Benjamin Godart &#8211; Monaco Tribune<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Bao Vuong was born in Vietnam in 1978, just after the war. In 1979, when he was only one year old, he fled the country by boat with his parents, heading for Europe. It took a year to cross the seas and oceans. Conditions on board the fragile, overloaded boats were difficult, night time was cold and unsettling, just like this mysterious canvas. It&#8217;s easy to imagine that this experience left a lasting impression on the subconscious of the painter, when he was just a baby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-shipwrecks-by-zineb-sedira-2008-and-2018\">4. <em>Shipwrecks<\/em> by Zineb Sedira (2008 and 2018)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Mauritania is home to the world&#8217;s biggest naval cemetery. The&nbsp;<em>Shipwrecks&nbsp;<\/em>triptych was created in the port of Nouadhibou, the setting off point for many migrants trying to make their way to Europe in the 2000s.
