The British scientist was in the United States on a lecture tour when she passed away. Prince Albert II reacted with emotion. Just the previous week, during\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2025\/09\/prince-albert-ii-calls-for-stronger-multilateralism-at-un\/\"><span style=\"color: blue; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;\">his stay in New York for the UN General Assembly<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: black;\">, the Sovereign had the privilege of talking to the woman he considered to be an environmental visionary.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-un-lien-privilegie-avec-monaco\">A special relationship with Monaco<\/h2>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"792\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/jane-goodall-792x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Jane Goodall\" class=\"wp-image-317214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/jane-goodall-792x1024.jpg 792w, https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/jane-goodall-232x300.jpg 232w, https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/jane-goodall.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 792px) 100vw, 792px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>\u00a9 Michael Alesi \/ Prince&#8217;s Palace<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jane Goodall received the Biodiversity Prize at the very first Prince Albert II Foundation Awards, in 2008. The inaugural award was of particular significance: she was one of the first three recipients of an award from the Foundation, two years after its creation. At the time, the Prince said: <em>&#8220;I wanted to create these Awards to give my full support to the exceptional men and women who are committed to saving our planet.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"related wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2025\/09\/robert-redford-prince-albert-ii-foundation-pays-tribute-to-an-ardent-defender-of-the-oceans\/\">Robert Redford: Prince Albert II Foundation pays tribute to an ardent defender of the oceans<\/a><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A visionary pioneer<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without a formal university education, Jane Goodall arrived in Tanzania in 1960 aged just 26 to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Her discoveries on the use of tools by primates, and their social behaviour, revolutionised primatology. She founded the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977 and the Roots &amp; Shoots youth programme, which today comprises thousands of groups in over a hundred countries.
