GEMLUC has just financed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2025\/10\/cerebral-cancers-two-promising-research-projects-at-centre-scientifique-de-monaco-supported-by-gemluc\/\">two PhD research projects<\/a> focused on improving treatments for aggressive brain tumours. Since Princess Grace\u2019s death in 1982, her daughter Princess Caroline of Hanover has carried on the commitment as Honorary President. \u201c<em>She has always supported us in an extraordinary way<\/em>,\u201d Fran\u00e7ois-Jean Brych said, adding with emotion, \u201c<em>Even when the charity experiences ups and downs, she is always by our side<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-legacy-of-princess-grace\"><strong>The legacy of Princess Grace<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Among Monaco\u2019s charitable organisations, GEMLUC stands apart. \u201c<em>Every single donation is passed on<\/em>,\u201d its Chairman insisted. His bequest made it possible to create the Fondation GEMLUC-Pollock, securing the charity\u2019s future with a reserve fund. Fran\u00e7ois-Jean Brych expressed his pride: \u201c<em>Despite my respectable age, I can assure you that in twenty years, GEMLUC will still be here.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-concrete-action-against-the-disease\"><strong>Concrete action against the disease<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At the CHPG, some of the equipment funded by the charity has made a real difference. About ten years ago, the gastroenterology department led by Dr Patrick Rampal\u2014former president of the CSM\u2014received a confocal microscope. \u201c<em>Nobody wanted to pay for one<\/em>,\u201d Fran\u00e7ois-Jean Brych recalled. \u201c<em>We did, and you know what? Today, the whole world comes here to train<\/em>.\u201d It&#8217;s a justifiable source of pride for an investment that helped place Monaco more firmly on the map of medical innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the charity does not rest on its laurels. Its latest investment at the CSM is resolutely future-oriented, supporting the next generation of researchers. The aim of the two PhD projects funded is to make cancer cells more sensitive to radiotherapy\u2014a breakthrough that could revolutionise treatment. \u201c<em>Today, almost every family is affected by cancer. Since 2024, GEMLUC has partially financed genetic testing prescribed at the CHPG to tailor cancer treatments. \u201c<em>We\u2019re providing \u20ac100,000 to expand access to these analyses, reducing their cost to around \u20ac1,000<\/em>,\u201d Fran\u00e7ois-Jean Brych explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-monaco-tribune wp-block-embed-monaco-tribune\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"3NubUJSvh0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2025\/10\/cerebral-cancers-two-promising-research-projects-at-centre-scientifique-de-monaco-supported-by-gemluc\/\">Cerebral cancers: two promising research projects at Centre Scientifique de Monaco supported by GEMLUC<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;Cerebral cancers: two promising research projects at Centre Scientifique de Monaco supported by GEMLUC&#8221; &#8212; Monaco Tribune\" src=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2025\/10\/cerebral-cancers-two-promising-research-projects-at-centre-scientifique-de-monaco-supported-by-gemluc\/embed\/#?secret=s6zLqRbuoO#?secret=3NubUJSvh0\" data-secret=\"3NubUJSvh0\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Approached by another charity, \u00c9coute Cancer R\u00e9confort, GEMLUC recently took a new step by funding a 3D breast reconstruction system. \u201c<em>Being able to tell a woman she will regain the same breast as before her illness\u2014only younger\u2014costs \u20ac4,000 per patient, but our board didn\u2019t hesitate for a second.<\/em>\u201d The restrained emotion in Fran\u00e7ois-Jean Brych\u2019s voice reflected the deep human impact of such decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-monaco-dubai-a-bridge-in-the-fight-against-cancer\"><strong>Monaco\u2013Dubai: a bridge in the fight against cancer<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Internationally, Expo 2020 Dubai opened unexpected opportunities. Thanks to Dr Paulmier, a three-year partnership was established with the University of Dubai. \u201c<em>These exchanges are very important and very interesting for the future<\/em>,\u201d Fran\u00e7ois-Jean Brych said enthusiastically, viewing the collaboration as a new way to advance research beyond Monaco\u2019s borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The outward momentum continues. The charity hopes to relaunch the long-dormant International Federation of Companies Against Cancer (FIELUC). \u201c<em>We have to get it going again. Fran\u00e7ois-Jean Brych admitted with a smile: \u201c<em>I\u2019m always a little nervous, because we still have to manage to bring together 400 people.<\/em>\u201d But on 8 November last year, as in every edition, the Soir\u00e9e de l\u2019Espoir was a full house. Princess Caroline of Hanover attended, true to tradition. This year\u2019s event will take place on 6 November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Monaco&#8217;s sporting world also contributes. Between tradition and modernity, the charity seeks balance for the decades ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked why he has remained devoted to the cancer cause, despite his own heart problems that might have led him elsewhere, Fran\u00e7ois-Jean Brych answered simply: \u201c<em>I have always been convinced of the value of our mission<\/em>.\u201d It&#8217;s a loyalty that sums up fifty years of commitment\u2014between medical breakthroughs and human stories\u2014in a Principality where philanthropy is not just a word, but an enduring
