According to investigators, pyrotechnics attached to champagne bottles ignited the acoustic foam on the ceiling, triggering a rapid and widespread blaze. The day after the disaster, Prince Albert II sent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/2026\/01\/le-prince-albert-ii-exprime-sa-profonde-emotion-apres-la-tragedie-de-crans-montana\/\">an official message<\/a> to the President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, expressing the Principality\u2019s \u201cdeep emotion\u201d and conveying its support to the Swiss authorities and emergency services mobilised in response to the catastrophe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In light of the devastating toll, Monaco has moved swiftly. In a statement, the Minister of State announced that the Technical Commission for Health, Safety and Environmental Protection would be called upon to strengthen inspections in party venues, to \u201c<em>raise awareness among operators of the strict observance of safety regulations,<\/em>\u201d and to prepare a bill banning all pyrotechnic devices indoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"related\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2025\/12\/photos-prince-albert-iis-2025-defined-by-emotion-diplomacy-and-commitment\/\">Photos: Prince Albert II\u2019s 2025, a year defined by emotion, diplomacy and commitment\n<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-well-known-risks\"><p data-start=\"1536\" data-end=\"1556\"><strong>Well-known risks<\/strong><\/p><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As early as 7 January, St\u00e9phane Valeri, Deputy Chairman of the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Bains de Mer, sought to reassure the press during his New Year address. The group has, for several years, replaced sparklers with safe LED alternatives. Traditional pyrotechnics, he said, are used only on exceptional occasions and under strict supervision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also pointed out that the flammable materials present in the Swiss establishment are prohibited in the Principality, and that Monaco\u2019s capacity limits would have prevented such overcrowding. Monaco has long maintained stringent regulations for nightlife venues.
