Buoyed by their recent run of positive league results, AS Monaco will be looking to maintain their momentum when they welcome Angers SCO to the Stade Louis-II this Saturday. Heading into the fixture undefeated in their last five league outings, manager S\u00e9bastien Pocognoli addressed the media at his pre-match press conference.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Injury update<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

First on the agenda was Pocognoli providing an update on the injury status of the squad, as he had more good news on many key players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPape Cabral has rejoined the squad, Eric Dier participated in part of the training session and Christian Mawissa is continuing his return after his first minutes against Paris Saint-Germain. We will provide a full assessment at the end of the day, but recovery is generally satisfactory 48 hours after the last match. Most players are ready to play again, although we must remain attentive to the history and fitness levels of some,\u201d he commented.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cRegarding Maghnes Akliouche, we took the necessary time, and it showed in the freshness he brought. He then added this on Mawissa specifically: \u201cWe played him for 30 minutes, and we need to be careful about how we manage his playing time. Following their valiant defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, which saw them lose 5-4 on aggregate over the two legs, the ASM head coach’s reflections on the tie were insightful and measured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think we had a good campaign, even against Real Madrid, where that’s part of the learning process. That match allowed us to progress and then string together some very good performances, especially against Juventus and the reigning champions. There was disappointment and regret, but it’s also a positive feeling against such an opponent. We need to use that to our advantage for the end of the season. The energy in training is good, the objectives are clear and everyone wants to pull in the same direction,\u201d he insisted.<\/p>\n\n\n

With all eyes now completely focused on Ligue 1, the Monaco boss spoke on the importance of the final 11 games of the term, stating: \u201cWe are 100% focused on the league. There are 11 Ligue 1 matches left, and if we want to play in Europe again next season, we’ll need to put together a good run of form. We’re capable of it, and everyone needs to be pulling in the same direction. Those who are thinking long-term here know that it all starts with qualifying for Europe. They have a clear and well-known game plan; they’re a very attacking team. Even at the European level, their style is valued. If we’re not at 150%, they can cause us problems. \u201cAnything is possible. We’ll decide based on the players available and how the group feels. We’ve shown we can perform well with both systems. The strength of this flexible formation is that it allows us to adapt the balance, whether in midfield or attack. We have several options, and that gives us real tactical depth,\u201d said the 38-year-old.<\/p>\n\n\n

I don’t see any issues with his commitment. He works for the team and has already been decisive. Certain situations shouldn’t be repeated, that’s clear, but he reacted well, he trained well and I sensed he was very focused after Paris,\u201d acknowledged Pocognoli.<\/p>\n\n\n
