The catch? La Marina di Cala del Forte isn\u2019t in Monaco, but in Ventimiglia, Italy. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p>Port Hercule and the harbour of Fontvieille are filled to the brim, a complicated situation for a country as small as the Principality Monaco. The solution? A deal with Monaco\u2019s Italian neighbours.<\/p>&#13;\n<p>At the end of 2016, Monaco decides to buy the dealership of Ventimiglia\u2019s tourist port for the next <a href=\"https:\/\/france3-regions.francetvinfo.fr\/provence-alpes-cote-d-azur\/monaco-achete-concession-du-port-vintimille-85-ans-1149827.html\">85 years<\/a>. After several years of work, the Cala del Forte port has now partially opened for the winter season. The port is expected to welcome between 30 and 50 boats in the following weeks.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-modest-inauguration\">A modest inauguration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p>In light of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/category\/coronavirus-en\/\">pandemic<\/a> and the all too recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/?s=storm+alex\">Storm Alex<\/a>, which devastated the Riviera\u2019s hinterland and destroyed one of Ventimiglia\u2019s bridges, the port\u2019s inauguration was as sober and as discreet as possible and was attended only by a select number of Mon\u00e9gasque and Italian officials. The traditional inauguration of pomp and circumstance is expected at the beginning of summer 2021.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cala del Forte port has a capacity of up to 178 ships. There are several hundred parking spaces available and a shopping district with around thirty boutiques will open in April.
