{"id":56675,"date":"2020-12-04T18:03:12","date_gmt":"2020-12-04T17:03:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/?p=56675"},"modified":"2020-12-04T18:03:14","modified_gmt":"2020-12-04T17:03:14","slug":"top-companies-including-chanel-join-campaign-against-plastic-pollution-in-the-sea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2020\/12\/top-companies-including-chanel-join-campaign-against-plastic-pollution-in-the-sea\/","title":{"rendered":"Top companies including Chanel join campaign against plastic pollution in the sea"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The<\/strong> <strong>Beyond Plastic Med Foundation (BeMed) has launched a Business Club to develop and implement concrete solutions to address plastic pollution in the Mediterranean. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of France and Monaco&#8217;s biggest businesses, including, the Monte-Carlo Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 des Bains de Mer, Chanel, and supermarket chain Carrefour have already joined the Foundation&#8217;s initiative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Business Club is intended as a platform to bring together companies along the entire plastics value chain, scientists and NGOs active in this field, in order to tackle the problem at its source.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The BeMed Business Club is a unique project of its kind, due to its collaborative functioning and its Mediterranean roots,&#8221; says the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondplasticmed.org\/en\/\">BeMed Foundation<\/a>. To help companies reduce their plastic pollution, the BeMed Business Club is supported by a committee of experts on the topic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt; READ ALSO:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2020\/07\/plastic-pollution-could-triple-by-2040\/\">Plastic pollution could triple by 2040<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-mediterranean-the-world-s-most-polluted-sea\">The Mediterranean: the world&#8217;s most polluted sea<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>BeMed was founded in 2015 by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2020\/11\/how-the-prince-albert-ii-foundation-is-tackling-noise-pollution\/\">Prince Albert II Foundation<\/a>, amongst others, to foster a network of Mediterranean institutions and bodies that actively tackle the area\u2019s plastic pollution. BeMed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2020\/10\/bemed-launches-a-new-call-for-projects-to-clean-the-mediterranean\/\">regularly funds micro-initiatives aimed at reducing Mediterranean plastic waste<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every year, more than 200,000 tonnes of plastic waste are discarded into the Mediterranean Sea, equivalent to 500 shipping containers per day. With 1 to 10 million plastic particles per km2,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2020\/10\/lack-of-cooperation-between-countries-fails-to-solve-mediterranean-pollution-says-report\/\">the Mediterranean is the most polluted sea in the
