{"id":58089,"date":"2020-12-14T10:34:55","date_gmt":"2020-12-14T09:34:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/2020\/12\/abu-dhabi-gp-leclerc-fails-to-make-a-comeback-says-hes-glad-its-over\/"},"modified":"2020-12-14T10:38:10","modified_gmt":"2020-12-14T09:38:10","slug":"abu-dhabi-gp-leclerc-fails-to-make-a-comeback-says-hes-glad-its-over","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2020\/12\/abu-dhabi-gp-leclerc-fails-to-make-a-comeback-says-hes-glad-its-over\/","title":{"rendered":"Abu Dhabi GP: Leclerc fails to make a comeback, says he&#8217;s &#8220;glad it&#8217;s over&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Charles Leclerc expressed disappointment and relief after finishing 13<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. <\/strong><strong>Max Verstappen (Red Bull) won the race, followed by Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes).\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>By the end of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc was emotionally and physically exhausted. \u201cI\u2019m disappointed that it should end like this,\u201d said the Mon\u00e9gasque driver after scoring a disappointing 13<sup>th<\/sup> place, \u201cIt was a difficult season and I\u2019m very happy it\u2019s over.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-une-course-difficile\">A difficult race<\/h2>\n\n<p>Leclerc started 12<sup>th<\/sup> on the grid, after receiving a three-place penalty for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2020\/12\/sakhir-grand-prix-charles-leclerc-ferrari-goes-big-and-goes-home\/\">a collision with Sergio Perez (Racing Point) last week at the Sakhir Grand Prix<\/a>. The Mon\u00e9gasque driver had a difficult race, complicated by dubious strategic choices on the part of Scuderia Ferrari: when the virtual safety car was deployed, Leclerc continued to race with his worn-out medium tyres instead of doing a pit-stop to switch to hard ones.\u00a0Most of the other drivers were running on hard tyres.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>&gt;&gt; READ ALSO:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.monaco-tribune.com\/en\/2020\/11\/jacky-ickx-charles-leclerc-is-gods-gift-to-monaco\/\"> Jacky Ickx: \u201cCharles Leclerc is God\u2019s gift to Monaco\u201d<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>&#8220;It was actually deliberate,\u201d said Leclerc, \u201cWe tried something different because we knew the stakes were low anyway. We placed a bet and lost, unsurprisingly.\u201d&#13;\n&#13;\nFinishing in 13<sup>th<\/sup> place, Charles Leclerc did not score any points.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2021-dans-tous-les-esprits\">All hopes are on the next season<\/h2>\n\n<p>The 2020 F1 season is sure to leave a sour taste in Leclerc\u2019s mouth. The Mon\u00e9gasque driver finished <a href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/results.html\/2020\/drivers.html\">8th in driver standings,<\/a> behind Alex Albon (Red Bull) and Carlos Sainz (McLaren).&#13;\n&#13;\nAll eyes and hopes are now on the 2021 season. \u201cWe\u2019re expecting significant improvements, I promise you that we\u2019ll be in a better place,\u201d said Leclerc.<\/p>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-6\"><strong>6<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Scuderia Ferrari\u2019s rank in the 2020 constructor standings.
