This international meeting, organised by the NGO “Together Against the Death Penalty”, in partnership with the “World Coalition Against the Death Penalty”, brings together during 3 days representatives of multilateral organisations, governments, experts and actors in civil society around the question of universal abolition of the death penalty.<\/p>\n
Exchanges and discussions will take stock of the progress made and the challenges facing the abolitionist movement, recall the stakes of abolition and accompany this process.<\/p>\n
In 2013, Monaco signed with a large number of states the “Common Call for the Abolition of the Death Penalty” and also supported the organisation of World Congresses.<\/p>\n
The Principality is also a member of the Core Group, a support group for international mobilisation for the universal abolition of the death penalty.<\/p>\n
In her speech, Mrs. Thevenoux recalled Monaco’s determined commitment to join the abolitionist movement with regard to the Principality’s resolute involvement in the promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms.<\/p>\n
Monaco joins international initiatives in the direction of the abolition of the death penalty in all circumstances and around the world and, in particular, co-sponsoring, since 2007, the biennial resolutions of the United Nations calling for a universal moratorium on the death penalty.<\/p>\n
The death penalty was abolished in Monaco by the Constitution of 17 December 1962. It was then no longer applied there for a long time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
