Years after a friend and fellow 00 agent is killed on a joint mission, a secret space-based weapons program known as “GoldenEye” is stolen. James Bond sets out to stop a Russian crime syndicate from using the weapon. Several scenes were filmed in the Monte-Carlo Casino, as well as in Port Hercules, the Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo, the old town, and Fort Antoine. The film helped strengthen the appeal of the Casino.
In the final days of the Cold War, James Bond and his colleague and friend Alec Trevelyan break into the Soviet Arkangel nerve gas factory to destroy it. The two men are discovered and, in a violent struggle, Trevelyan is taken prisoner and executed before Bond’s eyes by Soviet General Ourumov. Bond makes a dramatic escape. Nine years later, when the Soviet Union has become a constellation of independent nations, James Bond meets Xenia Onatopp, a beautiful creature who plays cat-and-mouse with him. The game turns out to be charming but also full of danger.
