Monaco Run: Joshua Cheptegei breaks the world record

World and European 5km records were broken this Sunday in Monaco.

Joshua Cheptegei, already world champion in the 10,000 metres, smashed the world 5km road record in 12 minutes and 51 seconds this Sunday morning in Monaco. The Ugandan has already achieved the world record for the 10 km road.

 

Frenchman Jimmy Gressier smashed Franco-Swiss record holder Julien Wanders’ European record in 13 minutes and 18 seconds. He finished second in the Monaco Run, behind Cheptegei.

 

On the women’s side, the French athlete Liv Westphal, broke the French record on the 5 km in 15 minutes and 31 seconds.

Charity walk

 

As a continuation of the 2019 edition, the Monegasque Athletics Federation has proposed a charity walk. The Pink Ribbon Walk is a walk of around 5km aimed at raising awareness of the fight against breast cancer and takes participants dressed all in pink across the Principality!
