Hôtel Metropole wins ‘Best Hotel in France and Monaco’ award

Monte-Carlo hotel chosen by readers of Condé Nast Traveller magazine

The Monte-Carlo Hôtel Metropole has been named as the “Best Hotel in France and Monaco”, according to the readers of prestigious travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller. The annual awards were voted for by almost half a million of the magazine’s loyal readership, who placed the Hôtel Metropole above the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat in St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and the Hôtel Crillon le Brave in Crillon-le-Brave in second and third respectively.

Indeed, the Metropole topped the rankings with a hugely impressive score of 99.34 and also came third in the list of “Best Hotels in Europe”. It was only bettered by the Baur la Lac in Zurich, Switzerland, which recorded a score of 99.64, and the Abadia Retuerta LaDomaine in Valladolid, Spain, which scored 99.52. The results were announced earlier this week and serve as one of the most revered accolades in the travel industry, with Condé Nast one of the longest-running and most respected publications in the sector.

The Hôtel Metropole was founded in 1886 by the Monte-Carlo Hotel Company on a tract of land which had previously belonged to the estate of Pope Leon XIII. Built in the Belle Epoqué style, the glamorous location soon won over Europe’s elite tourism sector with its understated luxury and impeccable design. In 2004, the building went under an innovative transformation, retaining the elegance of its former years while incorporating all the modern conveniences and Mediterranean style which contemporary guests demand.

“We are very proud of the recognition of over 429,000 readers of Condé Nast Traveller through this prestigious award, which is the result of our employees’ daily dedication to providing the highest levels of hospitality to our customers and offering them a place where the unique concept of culture, art, fashion, intellect and gastronomy meet,” said Serge Ethuin, general director of the Hôtel Metropole. It’s not the first time that the Metropole has achieved international recognition after its 2004 makeover, either. In 2010, The Leading Hotels in the World named it as “Best Hotel in the World” as well, demonstrating that it has a strong heritage of excellence and customer satisfaction.
