The Monegasque club lost 3-1 at home against Metz in the Coupe de France round of 16 on Tuesday night, and are therefore out of the competition.

The sky still looms dark above AS Monaco. The Principality’s club was eliminated in the round of 16, following a defeat against Metz at home this past Tuesday evening.

The start of the game seemed to reveal an advantage with two opportunities from Rony Lopes (12 ‘, 29’). It is, however, FC Metz who would open scoring thanks to a curling shot by Hein (31 ‘). Less than 10 minutes later, Sidibé served Falcao to even the score. The line would remain the same going into the half at one-all.

The second period opened and the Monegasques appeared once again to control the game, but the adversary’s strong defense would make their lack of precision in the last 30 meters very noticeable. Metz ended up taking the lead after a shot by Gapka (62 ‘). Nina sealed the fate of Thierry Henry’s men a few minutes later by scoring the third goal for Metz – final score: 3-1 for FC Metz. The Ligue 2 club will continue its path toward the Coupe de France.

Next match: Dijon-Monaco, Saturday night at Stade Gaston Gérard for the 22nd day of Ligue 1 play.
