Presentation of the results of the 6th edition of “April6”

Peace and Sport and the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation recently presented the results of the 6th edition of “April6” in the premises of the Foundation in the presence of Prince Albert II, Isabelle Bonnal, Director of National Education, Youth and Sports and Champions Peace Peace and Sports affiliates. On April 6 of each year, this global mobilisation celebrates the International Day of Sport at the Service of Development and Peace (IDSDP).

For the 2019 edition, the celebrations kicked off on Football Day on 19 March in Cyprus. On this occasion, the football clubs of Nea Salamina and Mağusa Türk Gücü met to promote dialogue and cooperation between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities through sport.

“We are pleased to have partnered with Peace and Sport for this historic event to promote lasting peace and dialogue on the island of Cyprus. We believe that sport can bring people together and we give intercommunity rewards to teams of Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots,” said Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, Founder of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, in his introduction speech.

The President and Founder of Peace and Sport, Joel Bouzou, then took the floor to present the first results of the mobilization of April 6 and the digital campaign #WhiteCard: “Again this year, so many countries have come together to promote peace through sport and celebrate the International Sports Day at the Service of Development and Peace. More than ever, it is necessary to develop initiatives that promote the values ​​of fair play, mutual respect, civic engagement and team spirit,” said Joel Bouzou during his speech.

So far this year, 1130 projects are registered on www.april6.org, in 109 countries. The platform will identify even more projects until it closes on April 19th. Since the first edition, the platform has received 3,240 projects in 182 countries. Regarding the digital campaign #WhiteCard, of the 6 editions, that of 2019 has already reached 243 million people on social media. AS Monaco Football and AS Monaco Basket have also participated in this unifying campaign.
