This season, the Gaston-Gérard stadium in Dijon has become a veritable invincible fortress. And on Saturday night, Robert Moreno’s men failed to storm the Dijon stadium. Undefeated in eleven home games, Dijon continued their incredible run of form by putting the brakes on AS Monaco’s positive spiral of three straight league wins.

After a lacklustre first half with few chances, the game settled down after the break when Mama Baldé took advantage of a poor clearance between Adrien Silva and Benoît Badiashile to eliminate Guillermo Maripan before coming out alone against Benjamin Lecomte to open the scoring with his right foot (1-0, 56′). Wissam Ben Yedder’s team-mates found the necessary resources to equalise late on when Adrien Silva’s free-kick, which Islam Slimani headed in at the far post and Guillermo Maripan extended into the goal after Alex Runarsson had parried off the ball (1-1, 79′).

It was a precious equaliser that enabled the principality’s club to extend their unbeaten run (four games unbeaten) and maintain their place in the top five. The Monegasques’ next meeting will take place next Saturday (8pm) at the Louis II Stadium in Reims, opposite the Stade de Reims.
