Faithful to its age-old tradition, Nice will once again host the biggest carnival in France. From February 16th to March 2nd, the city will host a bevy of parades, illuminations, and the famous flower battles all grouped around the theme of cinema.

Like every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected this winter in Nice to celebrate the Carnival, which has been celebrated since 1873. At the heart of the carnival corsi’s festivities will be parades of decorated floats that will circulate between the Place Masséna and the Promenade des Anglais. Artists from around the world will animate the carnival’s rhythm with odes to the cinematic arts. As is customary, the highlight of the show will certainly be the throwing of tens of thousands of flowers onto participants. Because if Rio has samba, Nice has its flower battles: a tradition that honors local horticultural production and makes the Carnival a world-renowned event

A tribute to Nice’s cinematic culture

After being dressed up as the King of Space in 2018, the Carnival King will wear the costume of the King of Cinema. The year 2019 marks the centennial of the Victorine studios, a Mecca of French film production where some of the best directors came to work. Carnival is the opportunity to dress up as a policeman from Saint-Tropez or a fighter pilot… time for everyone to jump into their costumes!
