Nice-Ventimiglia: overnight railway maintenance work from September to December 2025

SNCF has announced a new break in night-time rail services between Nice and Ventimiglia from 15 September to 12 December 2025.
According to details published on the SNCF Voyageurs website, the break, between 10 pm and 6 am Mondays to Thursdays, will allow work to be carried out on the rock faces between Villefranche-sur-Mer and Ventimiglia. The service will be suspended in both directions for the three-month period.
The new phase of planned maintenance follows on from earlier works, from 15 September 2024 to 26 June 2025. Last year, trains initially stopped running from 9 pm, before negotiations led by then Minister of State Didier Guillaume allowed for that to be pushed back to 10 pm and substitute buses to be laid on.

A precedent in 2024
In September 2024, SNCF granted the one-hour concession in light of protests from the Prince’s Government and the PACA Region. At the time, Céline Caron-Dagioni, Minister for Infrastructure and the Environment, called for the later time “for the duration” at a government press conference.
The initial phase of work concerned several aspects: to make Villefranche-sur-Mer station accessible for people with reduced mobility, to upgrade the overhead lines between Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Monaco, to reinforce the Saint-Laurent tunnel at Eze and create the multi-modal transport hub at Beaulieu-sur-Mer.

Planned substitute service
The Public Works, Environment and Urban Development Department confirmed it was aware of the new maintenance phase. “The Prince’s Government is indeed aware of these factors and has been working on the transport plan,” a spokesperson told Monaco Matin, adding that “specific communication campaigns will be launched shortly.”
As in the previous phase, there will be a substitute bus service departing from Monaco-Monte-Carlo station. The work may be suspended for late-evening events in the Principality.
