On April 24th at 8:30 pm, the theatrical tour of Marivaux’s Game of Love and Chance, staged by Catherine Hiegel, will make a stop at the Grimaldi Forum. The performance is an opportunity to enjoy this play’s prestigious casting, which includes Laure Calamy, Vincent Dedienne, and Clotilde Hesme.

This is one of the great classics in the French theatrical repertoire: The Game of Love and Chance by Marivaux narrates the somewhat particular path of seduction experienced by the beautiful Silvia and the intriguing Dorante. While the young woman’s father arranged their union without them ever having seen each other, the two met by posing as their own servants. What follows is a game of masks and pretense, where misunderstandings multiply freely. Emblematic of the light language adopted by Marivaux to express passion, the piece fully integrates the notion of “marivaudage”, which has become an expression of everyday language.

Created at the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin in Paris, in collaboration with the Atelier Théâtre Actuel and Canal 33, the staging and scenery being installed for the April 24th performance at the Grimaldi Forum has met great critical success. Laure Calamy, who plays Lisette, Silvia’s maid, received the Molière de la Comédienne in 2018 for this role. She is accompanied by two actors who have made regular appearances on the silver screen over these past years: Vincent Dedienne (recipient of the 2019 Crystal Globe for his portrayal of Dorante), and Clotilde Hesme, who lends her talent to the character of Silvia.
