What a comeback and what a performance! Last Sunday, during the 5th round of the 2019 season, Edoardo Mortara climbed to the top of the podium on the Hong Kong circuit. The Italo-Swiss driver took advantage of a penalty inflicted on Sam Bird to register the first victory in the history of the Monegasque team Venturi!

Four seasons of waiting and, finally, the podium! Fourth in Santiago then third in Mexico… Coming into his own from inside the cockpit, Edoardo Mortara, Venturi driver, has unleashed consecutive good performances since the beginning of the season. And then, last weekend, luck smiled down on him a bit.

Happy destiny

The driver of the Monegasque team was not the first to cross the finish line. The race’s physical winner was British driver Sam Bird (DS). But, a few minutes later, he was penalized 5 seconds for a collision that occurred at the beginning of the race with André Lotterer… It was destiny for Mortara and Venturi to claim their first victory in Formula E, the competition dedicated to electric cars.

“This first win is a very important moment for the team,” said Susie Wolff, team manager. This first in the history of Venturi, which is also a milestone in Monegasque sport in general. In the overall standings, Edoardo Mortara is now fourth, just two points behind leader Sam Bird.

Next appointment (and potential victory?): March 23 in Sanya, China
