Prince Albert II awards skeleton medals as Princess Charlene and the Twins cheer in Cortina
Prince Albert II, Princess Charlene and their children enjoyed an intense Olympic day on Sunday 15 February, between downhill skiing and skeleton competitions in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
After a notable first outing in the stands of the women’s curling competition, the Princely Family continued on Sunday with a particularly busy Olympic day, between downhill skiing and skeleton.
In the morning, Prince Albert II, Princess Charlene, Crown Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella took their seats in the stands of the legendary Olimpia delle Tofane slope to watch the women’s giant slalom alpine skiing event. Federica Brignone gave the Italian public a rare moment of excitement by winning on home soil, clinching Olympic gold to a standing ovation.

The Prince presents the medals at the Sliding Centre
At the end of the afternoon, the Princely Family travelled to the Sliding Centre in Cortina to watch the mixed team skeleton event, a spectacular discipline in which athletes hurtle down the track at over 130 km/h, lying on their sleds just a few centimetres above the ice.

At the end of the final, Prince Albert II had the honour of presenting the medals to the winners. The British duo of T. Stoecker and M. Weston took gold, ahead of the two German teams: S. Kreher and A. Jungk (silver), followed by J. Pfeifer and C. Grotheer (bronze).
