A fleet of 20 electric taxis will be set up in the first week of July at the initiative of the Government of Monaco. The test period will run until October 31.
These 100% electric vehicles will only allow intramural races, including the Monte-Carlo Beach, Monte-Carlo Country Club and the Marriott. The basic package without waiting is fixed at 15 €. It will be possible to hail the taxi in the street.
7 vehicles will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. White in colour, these eco-taxis will have a unique visual identity with flocking set by the Government. 5 charging stations will be reserved for them (2 in Beaumarchais square, 1 in front of the Neptune building in Fontvieille. And 2 whose location is yet to be determined). They will also be able to use the 18 terminals installed at different points on the surface of the Principality.
Voluntarily, licensed taxis purchased an electric vehicle in addition to theirs and, as part of this purchase, benefited from the usual government support. Drivers, offered by taxis and fulfilling legal obligations, will have a seasonal license that will be granted by the State.
Note that an application dedicated to users, “Taxis Monaco”, allows to order or book a taxi 24/24 and 7/7 in just seconds from a smartphone. The functionalities are multiple: – Direct 24/24, 7/7 – Booking 24h / 24, 7/7 – Request a free estimate – Geolocation of the position – Help with the entry of addresses (usual addresses, contacts, .. .) – Push alert – Practical information and contacts.
The Government is delighted by this initiative and its excellent cooperation with craft taxis which is moving towards greater “soft” mobility and better service to residents and tourists in the Principality.
